Web Platform, Digital Archive & Art Portfolio for Manuela Aldabe

manualdabe.com es la plataforma web, archivo digital y porfolio de la artista visual, fotoperiodista y fotógrafa uruguaya Manuela Aldabe.

Project Overview

The project involved conceptualizing, designing, and developing a custom digital space that cohesively brings together her prolific artistic output. It encompasses diverse disciplines such as cyanotype, embroidery, photojournalism, and botanical art, guided by a narrative deeply connected to memory, territory, and contemporary art.

The Challenge / Problem Solved

Coexistence of Multiple Disciplines & Visual Languages: Working across varied techniques—from the precision of photojournalism to the texture of embroidery and the chemical processes of cyanotypes—the main challenge was preventing the site from feeling fragmented. A unified visual narrative was needed to connect all her artistic facets.

Showcasing Textile Art & Organic Processes on Screen: Translating the tactile richness and sensitivity of botanical and textile art into a digital experience required extreme care in visual hierarchy, image quality, and exhibition space restraint.

Organizing Research & Memory Projects: Her works are not merely isolated images, but deep conceptual series and research projects that required a structure where text, social/historical context, and artwork could engage in dialogue without overwhelming the viewer.

The Solution

Minimalist & Gallery-Aesthetic UX/UI Design: Created a understated, clean platform where the interface acts as a neutral frame, allowing the textures, cyanotype blues, and intricate embroidery details to take center stage.

Concept & Series-Based Navigation: Organized the catalog into thematic galleries and auteur series (memory, botany, photojournalism), enabling fluid exploration for curators, collectors, and the general public alike.

Reading Experience for Narrative Projects: Integrated curatorial statements, conceptual context, and high-quality visual documentation to clearly communicate the theoretical depth behind each artistic project.

Benefits & Impact for the Artist

Consolidation of Digital Archive & Identity: Unified years of career history into a dedicated signature portal (Manuela Aldabe), boosting her international reach with curators, galleries, and art festivals.

Seamless Review Process for Curators & Institutions: Streamlined how cultural managers and curators review her body of work, eliminating the need to send heavy PDF files via email and offering an always updated digital dossier.

Enhanced Value for Hybrid Artworks: Fostered a deeper appreciation for the intersection between photojournalism, textiles, and botanical art through a curated editorial layout that properly contextualizes each medium.
